The Schedule For Grand Prix Focus
While the focus of this website’s motorsport coverage will be, well, Grand Prix racing, there will be plenty of other series covered as well.
And although the meat and potatoes of Grand Prix Focus will be on our live lap-by-lap coverage on Bluesky, it won’t be the only thing going on here.
Live Racing Lap-By-Lap Coverage
Last year, when I was at Frontstretch, I created and did the majority of the work on the Formula Frontstretch account on Bluesky. Something I learned while doing it is just how difficult it was to provide F2 and F3 coverage.
I live in America, and it’s just an absolute killer to get up at 2 or 3 am to cover those series. I’ll still be watching them on delay, but I can’t commit to anything more.
Obviously Formula 1 will be the main series, with all races and Sprints being covered live. F1 will have priority over any potential conflicts throughout the season… If Monaco bleeds into the Indianapolis 500 as an example, we’ll be staying with Monaco to the checkered flag.
Formula E has had three of its four races of season 11 covered by Grand Prix Focus, and will remain a big part of our coverage. It holds second priority. The two rounds at Tokyo and the two at Shanghai will be skipped, with Jakarta also in question as that depends on the start time. The nine other races though will be covered by GPF.
IndyCar is an interesting situation in that there’s nothing stopping me from doing that full season. But I’m also not interested in doing it; if I was, I’d still be at Frontstretch contributing there. I plan on covering five races there: St. Petersburg, Long Beach, and Indianapolis.
I have a love/hate relationship with NASCAR and that will be reflected here. I want to cover what I like in NASCAR, and that’s generally road course racing, with certain ovals. That’s why I didn’t bother with Daytona 500 coverage, because I don’t like that style of racing. I cannot recieve the Xfinity Series from my home, so that series will not be covered. Trucks, I have no desire to care for so that’ll go in the bin as well.
As far as Cup goes, I have 8 races pencilled in. COTA, both Darlington races, Mexico City (with F1 in Montreal having priority over it), Chicago, Indianapolis, Watkins Glen, and Richmond. The Southern 500 will be the final race of the season for GPF.
Finally, F1 Academy will be covered. Only a few weekends will have rough wake-up calls, which is fine compared to F2’s 14 and F3’s 10.
Endurance racing was something I looked at, but as a one man operation around here, it just wasn’t something I thought I could give justice to. If this blog grows and grows and eventually I can maybe bring on somebody for spot work, maybe LeMans could be done in the future, but I wouldn’t want to just do one race.
This comes out to 61 total races/sprints being covered on the GPF account this year. Every Wednesday morning, if you subscribe for free to this Substack, you’ll be emailed a schedule with times (in EST) of when and where each race GPF will be covering will be.
Column Writing
Part of why I chose to go independent this year was because I wanted less of a schedule when it came to pushing out columns.
Could I go and find something weekly to write about? Yes,there’s always something. But this is just a hobby of mine now, I don’t really care about doing something.
So, with one exception, I’ll be writing what I want, when I want. My guess is to expect something maybe once a month or so.
Every Wednesday morning along with the weekend schedule will be a top 10 ranking. Eagle eyed readers may have noticed the first of these last week. These rankings will be revealed with no context nor justification every week, and could consist of any subject. The only rule is that there are ten things ranked.
