This Weekend's Coverage Schedule (March 9th)
A quiet week before the start of the Formula 1 season.
This is an easy week, as there’s nothing on the schedule as far as our coverage goes.
There’s still some interest to be had this week. Formula 1 Drive To Survive’s seventh season will debut on Friday on Netflix, with all 10 episodes out on day one.
If you are looking for some race action, NASCAR will be competing at Phoenix Raceway this weekend. This will be the first Cup race of the season on FS1.
The Race of Champions will also be this weekend in Sydney, Australia. Competitors include Sebastian Vettel, Mick Schumacher, Travis Pastrana, Kurt Busch, Johan Kristoffersson, Sebastien Loeb, Victor Martins, David Coulthard and Valtteri Bottas. There will also be a special Supercars team of Jamie Whincup and Will Brown.
ROC Nations Cup will be at 4:30 am EST on Saturday morning and Race of Champions will be at 4:30 am EST on Sunday morning.
I had considered doing a ranking of the ten F1 teams post testing, but honestly, it’s hard to do so this year. There were remarkably few hiccups in 24 hours of testing, and it’s hard to honestly rank them because of that.
I do know that my claim in last week’s column that if Aston Martin Aramco plays their cards right, they could be in the top team discussion. The cards were not played right, and it’s very clear we’re going into a season with four top teams.
It’s also clear exiting testing that McLaren is the favorite on the season. McLaren had an excellent race sim with Norris on day two that was supremely quick. It remains to be seen if the papaya team will retain their speed throughout the year or if like Red Bull last year, they lose their title of fastest team by the halfway point.
